Joachim Brohm

Joachim Brohm (*1955) studied with Otto Steinert and Michael Schmidt at the Folkwangschule in Essen and in Columbus, Ohio under Allan Sekula as a Fulbright Scholar in 1983-84.

He counts as one of the most important representatives of German contemporary photographic art since the 1980s. Unlike the photo artists of the "Düsseldorf Photo School," Brohm oriented himself more to American models such as William Eggleston and Stephen Shore. His special trademark is the finely balanced color photography. Important in his work series is the examination of urbanity and the process of temporal as well as sociological development of places. He taught at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig from 1995-2022, where he also served as Rector from 2003-2011.

The IKS PHOTO Collection includes his series "Paradis I+II" (14 works) from 1982, as well as some works from the "Ruhr" series from 1980-83.
