Kavi Pujara

Kavi Pujara (*1972) was born in Leicester and studied first Software Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire and then Screenwriting at Royal Holloway University.
In his photographs, Kavi Pujara depicts the community of Indian immigrants living in the northern district of Leicester – a city located in the East Midlands of Great Britain. In the 1970s, immigrants from Uganda used to live here, and since 2010, it has been inhabited by people who come from the former Portuguese colonies. Kavi Pujara realised that the representatives of both the first and second wave of Indian immigrants have been facing similar problems, all related to the lack of acceptance and the feeling of being rejected. His photographic project was to raise awareness of the community which has long been part of British culture. The title of the project Semper Eadem – Always the Same was inspired by the motto of Leicester city, given to it by Queen Elizabeth I. It stands for stability and loyalty to tradition.
